3 Tips for Taking Great Care of a Weave

A beautiful head of hair can add to a woman’s confidence. The goal is to find a style that works well, looks great, and is manageable when it comes to maintenance. For some, a weave is the ideal choice. It makes it easier to get ready in the morning and provides a full look that complements her features. Check out these three tips for taking care of weaves in order to make them last.

Comb and Brush Gently

After cleaning the hair, it is important to comb out all of the tangles. Sometimes women will run a comb through their hair from root to tip, roughly pulling out the tangles as they go. This isn’t a healthy choice for a person’s own hair or weaves. Instead, start at the top and carefully work down to the bottom of the hair. Be sure to avoid the tracks as pulling them can not only create an uneven look but also damage the hair. It might take more time to comb carefully but it will help the results last longer and look better.

Choose a Great Conditioner

Any person can benefit from a great conditioner. However, when it comes to weaves, a conditioner can make a real difference in the appearance of the hair. Many stylists recommend leave in conditioners. No matter what product is chosen, start with a dime sized amount at the ends of the hair and work upwards. Avoid oil based conditioners as they can leave a build up that is hard to get rid of. A leave in conditioner can also be used sparingly in between shampoos to freshen up the look.

Avoid Heat

It can be tempting to get out a blow dryer or flat iron in the hopes of creating that ideal hairstyle. While there are times when this may be necessary, as a rule, avoid heat whenever possible. Allow the hair to dry naturally. There is no need to use a towel in order to get out most of the water. Instead, allow the air to do its job. It is important to note that the hair needs to dry completely. If the hair in and around the braids is left wet, it can lead to an unpleasant smell and other complications.
